Discussion

Discussion The behavior modification program implemented resulted in begging behavior being decreased by 59.50%. This was determined by collecting a baseline of begging behavior before the prompting and fading program was implemented. The baseline frequency of begging behavior was an average of 6.00 times per day, this data was collected for 7, 24 hour days. The frequency of begging behavior during the prompting and fading program was an average of 2.43 times, this data was also collected for  7, 24 hour days. The goal of decreasing begging behavior by 90% was not achieved in this modification program. There were limitations to this program that could have impacted the result. To collect data, there were 4 individuals adding to the frequency chart in the common areas, this could cause slight variability in the frequency recorded. Another limitation could be that individuals could have forgotten to add an instance of begging behavior on any of the 14 days the behavior was bei...

Results The applied behavior analysis program included a training program to decrease begging behavior. During treatment begging behavior decreased by 59.50%. The goal to decrease begging behavior by 90% was not achieved in this program. The behavior is not considered learned either. The baseline phase was a period of 7, 24 hour days, the frequency of the begging behavior was recorded and the average came to 6.00 times per day ranging from 4-9 instances. During the 7 day treatment phase, the begging behavior decreased to an average of 2.43 times per day, ranging from 1-4 instances. The decrease of begging behavior occurred within the first two days of the treatment phase (See Figure 1).

Methods

Method Participant The subject is a four year old male canine, who will be referred to as Bailey. Bailey is an American Labrador Retriever with a yellow coat. Bailey has been “begging” for all four years of his life, any time there is food being prepared, eaten, put away, taken out, or held while he is in the room. In the past, this behavior has been controlled to the extent that Bailey will lay down when people are sitting and eating.  Materials In this project, there are two types of positive reinforcers being used; primary and secondary. The primary reinforcer will be a cheese and bacon flavored treat. This reinforcer was chosen based on an 11 trial preference assessment conducted previous to the start of this project. The secondary reinforcement used will be praise, this includes a higher tone of voice while saying “good boy” and petting him. I will be keeping a chart, both in the open concept kitchen and living room shared with 3 roommates, and my bedroom. These charts ...

Introduction

Introduction         The goal of this modification program was to decrease the occurrence by 90%. The behavior would be considered learned when the subject no longer needed to be given the “stay” command, where the subject does not leave the placement they were originally put in, more than the initial command. Meaning the subject would require no correction in the behavior throughout the time the individual is preparing, eating, putting away, taking out, or holding food. For this to be learned, the subject must successfully complete this three consecutive times within a span of 24 hours.          The following article discusses important information on how to choose reinforcers for animals, which was important research to do for the effectiveness of this modification program. Reading this article allowed the individuals administering the reinforcer to the participant understand what to use for a reinforcer and how effectiv...
